Rancho Jurupa Regional Sports Park to Re-Open Under New Management
Local park district to assume operations and maintenance of sports park in Jurupa Valley
The Riverside County Regional Park and Open-Space District (RivCoParks) announces the Rancho Jurupa Regional Sports Park in Jurupa Valley, California will be transferring to Jurupa Area Recreation and Park District (JARPD) management. The Sports Park, located at 5249 Crestmore Road, opened in April 2012 and features lighted and marked synthetic turf fields, natural turf fields, a playground, picnic shelters, restrooms, a concession stand, and parking. The RivCoParks Board of Directors (County Board of Supervisors) voted Tuesday to approve the operations agreement.
“On behalf of the Jurupa Area Recreation and Park District, I would like to thank the Riverside County Board of Supervisors and the Regional Park and Open Space District for their vote of confidence in JARPD to manage the Rancho Jurupa Sports Park complex,” said Ron Anderson, president of JARPD. “It is our sincere intention to not only maintain the positive direction established by the County Parks District, but to enhance opportunities and provide additional services for the benefit of all community residents.”
RivCoParks has operated the Sports Park since it opened, but financial impacts from the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic led the agency to explore new partnerships to help keep the park open to community groups. JARPD has a shared mission to provide quality recreation and athletic facilities to area residents, but they lacked a dedicated soccer complex with lights and flexible field space.
“This collaboration between our two agencies is a perfect example of local government working together to ensure the public has access to healthy physical fitness activities in the most efficient ways possible,” said Colby Diuguid, general manager for JARPD.
The two park districts have a goal of transitioning the park operations and management by September 1, 2020, if public health guidelines allow full use of the park. Overall health and wellbeing of players and guests in the park remain a top priority.
“The timing couldn’t be better since the California Department of Public Health announced Monday, August 3, that youth sports could resume within established guidance. The fall season typically kicks off in early September,” said Kyla Brown, general manager of RivCoParks. “Our two agencies are excited about partnering the keep the park open in a safe and responsible way.”
Groups that have historically used the park for practice, games and tournaments will continue to receive priority for scheduling once the park is open.
